McLendon-Chisholm began as two separate settlements: McLendon and Chisholm. P.A. McLendon settled around 1870 where he built a store, cotton gin, and blacksmith shop that remained in operation until 1975. The land that eventually became the site of Chisholm was given to a Mexican War veteran in 1847. This veteran then sold 200 acres to two brothers, Enoch Parson Chisholm and Frank Chisholm. A few years later, his brother Enoch purchased an additional 600 acres. In 1969, the two communities were incorporated as McLendon-Chisholm to seek zoning protection and preserve their rural lifestyles.
